Carcinoma mammario mucinoso

Il carcinoma mucinoso puro (detto anche colloide) è molto raro (2% di tutti i tumori mammari): più spesso è associato ad altri tipi di tumore. È un  carcinoma mammario duttale invasivo.  È chiamato così perché le cellule tumorali appaiono al microscopio “affogate” nel muco. La prognosi di questo tipo di tumore è solitamente molto buona.
La diagnosi e il trattamento locale (chirurgia e radioterapia) sono in linea generale uguali agli altri tipi di tumore.

Terapia medica: 

La maggior parte dei carcinomi mucinosi contiene i recettori ormonali per gli estrogeni e il progesterone. È perciò solitamente indicata una terapia ormonale.
Poiché il carcinoma mucinoso nella maggior parte  dei casi non interessa i linfonodi ascellari e la sua crescita è lenta, la chemioterapia è raramente indicata.
