DHT: Il diidrotestosterone deriva quasi esclusivamente dalla conversione periferica del
testosterone ad opera della 5-α-reduttasi a livello dell’unità pilo-sebacea; trascurabile la secrezione ghiandolare diretta di DHT.
Il testosterone a sua volta deriva quasi interamente dalla trasformazione dell’androstenedione secreto dal surrene e dall’ovaio in uguali quantità e solo in parte derivato di trasformazione del 17-OH ad opera della desmolasi.
Il DHT è infine metabolizzato in androstenediolo ed escreto come tale a livello renale.
Il DHT è l’ormone direttamente responsabile dell’accrescimento pilifero.
